This is an album not to be missed. It isn't often that you discover an artist who at such a young age has so much to say with his philosophical, poetic lyrics. It sounds new and fresh, unlike any other Afrikaans or South African artist. And to top it all the tunes are really memorable. The CD consists of 13 songs, all original, with some input by Karen Zoid in “Op die maan”. Several guest artists such as Laurika Rauch and Paul Riekert from Battery 9 sing duets with Riku.
It is his fifth album and has been called the most progressive album ever in Afrikaans. It is brilliant, sensitive lyrics, well thought out, always with a social or political comment and a little humour. His music is really versatile – from ballads to smooth jazz, acoustic guitar and electronically driven experiments. My favourites are “Oorlogtyd”, “My Amerika” and “Osama Bin Laden”.
